Fiddle by Stacey

Stacey Snodgrass is an accomplished musician and teacher who promotes old-time fiddle and guitar music.   "Old-time music" is a genre of North American folk music that is comprised of various cultures of Ireland, Britain, Africa, and continental Europe. Also, early recorded country music of the early 1900's, particularly from the southeastern states, is commonly referred to as "old time music". This music was often performed by a string-band of banjos, fiddles, and guitars.

The Kings Cultural Center allows Mrs. Snodgrass to reach students who may not otherwise have the opportunity to be exposed to old-time music.  Through small group classes, private instruction, workshops, and monthly jams, Mrs. Snodgrass’s goal is to preserve old-time music and share her music with residents of Kings County.  The Kings Cultural Center allows the California State Old-Time Fiddlers (District 2) to meet once a month at no cost.  In doing so, the Kings Cultural Center provides a welcoming place for musicians of all levels, backgrounds, and ages to play music and perform, passing down the traditions of old-time, folk, and bluegrass music.

Students from Mrs Snodgrass’s musical classes provide small concerts throughout the Hanford community including functions at the Hanford Carnegie Museum and at rest homes in senior apartment complexes in the community.  Many of Mrs. Snodgrass’s students go on to compete at state fiddle competitions (in Tehachapi, Red Bluff, and Oroville) and the Kings Cultural Center helps to promote these musicians.

$30 dollars per student per month
